On 10 and 11 May 2023, the workshop "Application potential of
thermal spraying as a substitute for functional chromium plating"
took place at Linde GmbH in Unterschleißheim. The invitation was issued
by GTS e.V., which organised the workshop in cooperation with eiffo eG
and vecco:net.
The aim of the workshop was to familiarise users from the field of electroplating with the technology of thermal spraying and to agree on the boundary conditions for a possible implementation of this technology. Similarities and differences between the individual coating systems and the galvanic processes were also highlighted and explained using practical examples.
The workshop met with great interest, both from users of electroplating and from users of thermal spray technology. The broad selection of speakers and the contents of the presentations provided a good overview of the processes, the boundary conditions and also the limits of thermal spraying in comparison to the electroplating processes and stimulated all participants to further and interesting discussions.
In a concluding discussion, the possibilities of further cooperation between the associations, especially with regard to REACh approvals, were highlighted and a possible repetition of the workshop with further practical examples and more in-depth cooperation possibilities was agreed.
We will report on this in detail in the next GTS-Strahl in
autumn 2023.
