Who are the Newcomers of “NEWCOMER@GTS”?

Dear GTS members,

It’s finally happened. The GTS Junior Club has been initiated.

On 26 March 2002, a meeting took place in Düsseldorf to found the “Newcomers”. Numerous devoted and enthusiastic participants got together to launch the Junior Club which was officially given the name: Newcomer@GTS.

But what was the actual reason for starting a GTS Junior Club and what does it represent?

Why does GTS need a Newcomer@GTS Club?

In the short or medium term, many small-scale and middle-sized companies involved in thermal spraying will face the task of handing over their management, completely or partially, to the next generation. Although most small enterprises have very differing structures, the issues which confront the younger generation are nevertheless very similar. Tomorrow’s prospective managers have to learn in a relatively short time what the founding generation learnt over several decades. What’s more, this learning process is further complicated by both a constantly changing market and constantly changing statutory requirements. Problems which executive staff consider trivial or easy to solve can have costly and far-reaching consequences for young people later on. And after all, most “old hands” have other “old hands” they can contact when the going gets tough. Here, the Yellows Pages have an ad which always fits the bill: “If you’d only asked someone who knows the ropes!” – But how can you know who to contact if you’ve always worked in your own “little kingdom”?

What should the Newcomer@GTS Club accomplish within the wider context of GTS?

GTS now comprises more than 130 enterprises with a wealth of fundamental knowledge and expertise. If one sees GTS as a community of members which are mutually interested in thermal spraying, then the answer is clear-cut: GTS member companies wish to jointly promote our technological sector. The idea behind the Newcomer@GTS Club is to offer our junior managers a forum in which they can discuss important issues and difficulties, in which education and training can be organized and which provides an opportunity to exchanges opinions and experiences. The Newcomer@GTS Club is definitely not intended as a club within a club! The many years of experience which our long-term GTS members have to offer is just as valuable and necessary for the development of future managers as the different approaches which younger staff have to problem solving.

The Newcomer@GTS club welcomes every new member who wishes to put the club’s ideas into practice, who wishes to help us develop new ideas or who simply wants to pop by to find out what the club actually does.

Your Newcomer@GTS Team
